Atreyu Orange County, California` da kurulmuş bir metalcore grubudur. İlk olarak "Retribution" ismi ile kurulan grup daha sonra adını The Neverending Story karakterlerinden biri olan Atreyu` ismi ile değiştirdi.

Grup Victory Records ile çalışmaya başlamadan önce iki bağımsız EP yayınlamış ve yapılan anlaşmadan sonra Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses (2002) isimli ilk albümlerini çıkardılar. Bu albümden "Ain`t Love Grand" ve "Lip Gloss and Black" isimli iki single çıkardılar ve ikincisi özellikle canlı şovların vazgeçilmez parçalarından biri oldu. 29 Haziran 2004` te çıkardıkları The Curse isimli albümleri listelerde 32. sıraya kadar yükseldi. Albümden "Right Side of the Bed" ve "The Crimson" isimli iki single çıkardılar.

Grubun son albümü A Death-Grip on Yesterday 28 Mart 2006 tarihinde piyasaya çıktı. Önceki albümlere göre biraz daha farklı bir görünümde olan bu albümde Varkatzas sert şarkı sözleri üzerine daha melodik vokaller seslendirmektedir. 2006 yılı içersinde de bu albümden A Death-Grip on Yesterday, "Ex`s and Oh`s" isimli bir single` ları çıktı.

Bütün albümlerinin tanıtımı için pek çok turnede çalmışlardı. Warped Tour` un 2005 yılı etkinliklerinde performanslarını sergilemişlerdi. 20006 Ozzfest` te Unearth, Bleeding Through ve Norma Jean ile ikinci sahnede konser verdiler.
